About our new construction work

What Cedar Sun does on a new construction project.

Building from scratch means a lot of moving parts: site prep, soils reports, foundation engineering, framing, MEP rough-in, exterior envelope, finish carpentry, and a long inspection schedule. We coordinate all of it. Most of our new construction work falls into one of three buckets: custom single-family homes on hillside or estate parcels in Spanish Hills, Las Posas, and the Ojai Valley; infill homes on tear-down lots in Ventura and Oxnard; and small commercial buildings under 10,000 square feet. We work directly with your architect and structural engineer, or recommend ones we've built with for years. Every project is permitted through the right jurisdiction, whether that's a city building department or Ventura/Santa Barbara County Planning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about new construction.

How long does a custom home build take in Ventura County?

Most ground-up single-family builds run 10 to 14 months from groundbreaking to certificate of occupancy. Permits, soils reports, and architectural review can add another 3 to 6 months on the front end depending on the jurisdiction.

Do you handle the architect and engineer?

We work with your architect and structural engineer if you have them, or we can recommend firms we've built with for years. Either way we run the construction phase, including all permitting, inspections, and trade coordination.

What does new construction cost per square foot?

It depends heavily on finishes, site conditions, and jurisdiction. Custom homes in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties typically run $400 to $700 per square foot for finished space. We give detailed line-item estimates after a site visit and review of the plans.

Are you licensed for both residential and commercial?

Yes. Cedar Sun Construction holds California CSLB License #1137507 (Class B General Building Contractor) which covers both residential and commercial work.
